Polly Courtney was working as an analyst at a large American investment bank in London, when she started to write Golden Handcuffs in the back of a taxi on her way home from work at 4am. She had turned her back on the spanners and crankshafts of her engineering degree, but was beginning to learn that banking wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
