Description of Behind the Scenes at the WTO

The economic prospects of developing and developed countries alike are being shaped by the policies of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on trade, services, investment and intellectual property rights. Based on in-depth interviews with participants in the WTO trade talks, this remarkable book reveals:; The preferred mode of negotiation is behind closed doors; Decisions are often being made without the full approval of developing countries; The poorest and smallest countries do not have the capacity to participate effectively; Illegitimate pressures are brought to bear, and inducements offered, by the US and EU countries

Press and Industry Reviews

'This timely book effectively counters the myth that developing countries are well-served by the WTO and usefully exposes the often brutish methods employed by the world's powerful states to impose their agenda on the poorest.' - Mark Curtis, Head of Global Advocacy and Policy Division, Christian Aid;
